The Kyrgyz Pepublic became an independent country in 1991 after the fall of the old Soviet Union. The country is among the twenty countries in the world with the highest perceived level of corruption. Since independance day the country has led many riots. Terrorism in Kyrgyzstan has increased since the U.S. military invaded Afghanistan in 2001 to fight against Taliban. The governments of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan provides airbases for counter-terrorism operations. Southern Kyrgyzstan is increasingly sympathetic to terrorism and radical Islam.
